Can anyone explain to me why we should allow our TAX dollars to support USU when they put out things like?... http://www.usu.edu/pride/ I don't see my religious beliefs, sexual preferences and political ideals represented with an excusive webpage on USU's public owned web server. This is nuts, especially for a place like Utah. When will we say enough is enough? I thought universities and schools are for learning skills for the work place. Looks like propaganda to me.

Now you are trying to do exactly what you complained the HJ was doing. You want things to be one sided. USU does not promote clubs on way or the other. in fact the LDS institute has information on the USU website. http://www.usu.edu/ldssa/institute/index.html Imagine that x% of tax payers support USU allowing the Pride Alliance using the webserver and it only takes about x% of the resources. Should we say that the majority should silence the minority, as they pay taxes to? There is room for people to publish their opinions but there is also room for a public forum, which I hope this becomes. I feel that the purpose of universities are to teach people how to think and engage their minds. To do this people need to look at other ways of thinking and alternate views on topics. When we seek to silence views in the others we show an insecurity of our position. Now, I do not advocate letting people shove their opinions down your throats or presented most material to minors. There are many groups, especially the Pride Alliance, who want to make people mad so that they can claim persecution and justify their positions because everyone else is so "hateful".

I do not believe that USU is legally allowed to discriminate against what clubs form: If it gives resources to one club, unless it can demonstrate that another club is particularly troublesome, it must give resources to the other one as well. I'm sure that if you wanted to, you could set up a "Mormon Club" at the University (if there isn't already one). More than that, I think the organisation serves a useful function especially here in Logan, given the discrimination these people likely face.

The problem with Utah State University is that nobody is in charge. They all pass ultimate responsibility to some higher authority with whom they have no direct affiliation- thus when investigating their spending patterns or raising any questions that may reflect negatively upon them, they point the finger somewhere else and cover by trying to bring up how wonderful their football team is. I attended the school for two years and in that time worked with many of its departments. Instructors and department heads frequently had the personalities of garden gnomes. At one point in my education I sought the advice of the head of the Department of Communication regarding personal career goals and objectives. The smell of alcohol fresh on his breathe and his relaxed disregard for my future caused me to end the appointment early (and finally leave the school for another). I digress. I could go on for hours!

It's strange to me...Mormons were treated so poorly, unfairly, and weren't recognized in the past, and yet now, Mormons do just that to other groups such as homosexuals

I'm not Mormon but judging from this post and your other post, it's safe to say that you are reverse! You have hate towards Mormons and other Christians in general! public money from USU shouldn't support any special interest group. They should be private.

I don't hate anyone. I'm just pro-equality. If one side is heard, like the Christian-themed Narnia film, then the other side has a right to be heard without harassment, like in The Golden Compass. Pure and simple As for the special interest post, it just comes back to equality. I see nothing wrong with my tax dollars supporting the acceptance of homosexuals, while Utah's society, being predominantly conservative, does. As for you not being Mormon, feel free to replace "Mormon" in my comment with any religion, or lack thereof, and it still fits...nearly every group has been treated poorly or unfairly in history. I merely said "Mormon" because it can be assumed that most of the people who would be reading my comment are in fact Mormon

Ideally higher education would be part of the free market and not controlled/funded largely by the government. Then the consumer could decide which companies to support/ not support.
