I find it interesting how the Herald Journal was quick to remove from the “articles receiving most comments” Dee Hansen’s letter published on 11/27/2007. Most letters such as this stay up longer. Dee Hansen is as right on as it gets in this letter! The Unions are destroying our system of Capitalism within the business world and helping further the Marxist, Communist, Socialist, EnvironMentalist agenda within our Government run schools which ultimately rubs off onto our children. I posted Dee’s letter here because it needs to continue to get out to everyone. His letter which now can’t be found on the Herald Journal website starts below here.
Freedom of choice or liberty is a wonderful blessing. Sometimes the decisions we make come back to bite us. The huge winner in Utah’s last election was the Marxist labor union, the UEA and the NEA. The voucher program, a last gasp for free enterprise in our school system, was defeated by 64 percent of Utah voters.
The history of unions is clear. A battle to bring socialist/communist labor unions into the United States began many years ago with lead pipes, baseball bats, broken bones as well as other types of mental and physical harassment. The socialists/communists, with help from politicians, succeeded in winning this war. Thus, when President Kennedy, by executive order, in 1962 allowed these labor unions to infiltrate our schools, there was little resistance.
Until that time the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) had local control of our schools. American schools were considered the best in the world. As these radical unions incrementally gained control the PTA gradually lost their influence. The unions have the political power now and the PTA has been reduced mostly to fund raising and cheer leading for the Marxist labor unions. Today, the education of our children in the U.S. ranks about 17th in the industrialized world.
Utah was once a “conservative” state; as such we were one of the last to allow unions into our schools. It was the national union, not the PTA, who pumped millions of dollars into Utah to stop freedom of choice in our schools. What is the next goal of the teachers union? Utah is one of the last states to enjoy a “right to work” law, which gives teachers a choice to join or not to join the union. Emboldened by their last victory, they will unite with other unions as well as the NEA to have this law overturned. It will then be “mandatory” for all teachers to join the union.
Surprise! Utah is no longer a conservative state. There has not been a conservative mayor in Salt Lake City for 40 Years. The last two have been radical socialists. All of Utah just voted by a wide margin in favor of Marxist unions and against Free Enterprise. Consider the following: Non-union workers are ridiculed as “scabs” including other four letter words. Webster defines a scab as “one who refuses to join a union, a mean contemptible person, a scoundrel, a black leg, a rat.”
This is the mindset of the communist organization that now has control of America’s children. Freedom of choice for teachers and others will soon be gone. Who will we blame then? George W. Bush?
