A CALL TO ACTION!

Accountability

When the Major Media fails to get the facts right and lead their readers in the wrong direction, who is to hold them accountable. Recent history indicates that they are either unwilling or incapable of self criticism. Recent revelations regarding the so called Wilson/Plame/Libby affair are a case in point. Both the New York Times (NYT) and especially the Washington Post have promoted the idea that the Bush Administration set out to punish Joe Wilson for his original op-ed piece in the NYT. I have written previously about this whole fandango but I would like to point out that recently it has been revealed who was responsible for the so called outing of Valerie Plame (Joe Wilson’s wife) as a CIA employee. It turns out the Richard Armitage was the first to reveal to reporters her status. Mr. Armitage was not a Bush Administration operative, but worked under Colin Powell at the state department. After millions of dollars spent on a special prosecutor (who it knew this almost from the start) and the stress, expense and harassment of numerous Bush Administration employees what has been gained. Nothing, other than the press was able to pillory the Bush Admin. for three years. If you ever had any doubt about the partisan leanings of Chris Matthews of MSNBC or Newsweek or numerous other publications or Media darlings their constant promotion of this story should remove all doubt.

Unfortunately, the bigger story here by far, which has been totally ignored by the Major Media, is that elements within the CIA have successfully effected Unites States foreign policy with the aid of their media toadies, through this whole affair. This is a great threat, yet the partisan media have ignored it. Why, because their hatred of George Bush is greater than the pursuit of truth or the welfare of the country. I know of no greater indictment of the Major Media than this pathetic drama. As it has been said many times before, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Peace

"Quis custodiet ipsos custodies", meaning "who will watch the watchers", for those who haven't read 'Digital Fortress'.

It's a good question. There is no doubt the media can be, and has been at times, misleading. Question is what to do to fix it. If we give someone power over the media to insure the content is valid, how long before that person becomes corrupt? We could give it to the government, but do we really want them to have that power also?

Reminds me of an episode of Dr. Who. All the news in the galaxy came from one place, which was corrupted by an alien life form. Good episode.
