Who is Nancy Pelosi?

            It is quite possible that Nancy Pelosi could become the next speaker of the house. So who is she and what does she think? She married Paul Pelosi and they later moved to the San Francisco area. Paul was an investment banker and made a large amount of money (net worth estimated to be 50 millions) via California’s booming real estate market. Nancy has claimed for years to be an avid support of the environmental movement as well as supporting labor and numerous other left wing causes. Like most left wing Democrats she preaches lofty claims but her actions fall way short. A good example is their partial ownership in the Corde Valle Golf Club and Resort in San Martin California. The history of the development of this club is very revealing. To get a permit for development of the 275 acre club the developers made a number of concessions to environmentalists and the public in general. One of these promises was that the course would allow over 60% of the rounds played there by the public. They also made a number of agreements regarding environmental concerns. When the course opened in 2000, private memberships were offered for $250,000. It also became apparent to the County Planning Commission that their rules made it nearly impossible for a non wealthy member of the public to use the course. Non members need to call 72 hours in advance and for eighteen holes the fee was $275. If you were willing to pay this fee a caller was often told that “we are all booked up for that date.” After an investigation it turns out that only a dozen non members were allowed to play the course since it opened in 2000. The club had also ignored a number of environmental requirements. One was a failure to provide habitat for two threatened species. The California Dept of Fish and Game revealed that the club had provided only one yearly report over the last seven years.

            How did the clubs management deal with the outcry over their failure to keep their word and meet the agreed upon environmental issues? The hired some powerful lobbyists and placed a former San Jose City Council member and the campaign treasurer for the Mayor on the pay roll. Finally, after much wrangling the County agreed to allow the club to host an annual charity golf tournament for children. The course still pollutes a nearby river by runoff because they never built the agreed upon storm drainage system. The ponds agreed upon for the threatened species were never built. While she condemns the Republicans for out sourcing jobs to foreign markets their extensive portfolio does not involve any manufacturing business. She is a significant holder in Cisco systems and other high tech companies which have heavily outsourced much of their labor to foreign markets. While claiming to support the farm workers union their own vineyard in laceName w:st="on">NapalaceName> laceType w:st="on">ValleylaceType> uses only non union labor. She also has been an ardent supporter of labor unions in general but their major ownership in a resort and spa also in laceName w:st="on">NapalaceName> laceType w:st="on">ValleylaceType> uses only non union workers. The smallest room available will cost you $450 and cottages fetch up to $3,500. Same with another Hotel which they have partial ownership in Santa Barbara. They also have a significant ownership in a chain of 16 restaurants which uses only non union labor. Of course both the AFL CIO and the united farm workers giver her very high ratings because of her support for legislation which supports their causes, same with several environmental groups. It seems that hypocrisy knows no bounds when it comes to the left and limousine liberals.
