I cannot believe all the desperate measures that the Bear River Health Department is taking to dupe us into another year with regards to bad air quality BS 2.5. They have produced a DVD that they are trying to get the LDS church to show on 5th Sundays. If this is shown in church, I will write a letter to the first presidency. This is not church material and should not be shown in church. Church is suppose to be politically neutral! This DVD is political propaganda that is the opinions of a few people who have their big USU high and mighty degrees and think they know everything. If you want to have a political debate in church on Sunday and stir the hearts of men against one another, just show this DVD. I will walk out when the DVD starts and come back when it is over, then give my two cents worth in class!

If they want to stop the bad air, they can stop the bus system. The bus system accounts for more bad air than the rest of all the cars put together. I find it crazy that people who can't afford the high gas prices and who want to run their wood burning stove in order to keep warm, have to worry about the "wood burning stove Nazi patrol" on behalf of our friendly Health Department.

It is truly a double standard for the Health Department who is public funded and has more power than it should. They tell us we are evil to drive a car and burn a stove, yet they slowly poison us all summer long and violate our property rights with their lovely mosquito abatement program. They support riding a bus that spews black smoke into the environment. They act like the Russian KGB by picking on a small fund raiser in a park selling breakfast for not getting a food permit yet they want to kill us off by fluoridating our water supply. If I have to choose between drinking water with heavy metals like mercury and eating someones home cooking without a permit, I choose the latter of the two!

Just like Logan City and Cache County, the Bear River Health Department is way out of control!!! It's very much time that people around here stood up to these people. It's not about our health, it is all about them getting complete control over us all! Speak to your Bishop and tell them that you do not want this Liberal propaganda to be on display in your ward!

Like usual, the Herald Journal gave the Health Department and USU a free pass, front page writeup with no other side to the story. How typical! It is sickening, just notice the title. The article is below.

"MORMON ENVIRONMENTALISM

By Lexie Kite

Although they are charged with being ‘righteous stewards’ over the planet, many Latter-day Saints hesitate before backing enviro-issues that seem liberal. What two USU grad students are doing to send the message: You can be a good Mormon and an environmentalist, too

In a Utah State University classroom packed full of past and present Latter-day Saints, self-proclaimed “tree huggers,” “closet Democrats” and even a few “closet Republicans,” the “Mormon Environmental Ethic” was defined and debated at last weekend’s Utah Bioneers conference.

One idea summed up the thoughts of USU’s student presenters, Jay Price and Jesse Walker: “Our doctrine is enormously progressive as it relates to the environment, but our cultural interpretation has not followed suit,” they quoted former LDS Utah Congressman Wayne Owens as stating. “Our theology has not translated politically into a powerful environmental ethic. Some hope is found, however, that the Mormon public is increasingly sensitive to things environmental.”

As members of what they consider to be a “growing LDS environmental ethic,” Price and Walker, both LDS and graduate students, said it is possible to be an active Latter-day Saint and an environmentalist.

Karen Froerer, a Brigham Young University master’s student who presented the information alongside Price and Walker, said environmentalism is up and coming in the Mormon culture.

There was a time I felt like the only tree hugger in Provo, but it now feels like a growing community,” she said. “I don’t feel ostracized at all anymore.”

LDS environmental ethics are based on this principle: God is our creator and we are stewards with dominion over all,” Price said. “We can translate that into either raping and pillaging the land or tending the garden.”

Hundreds of LDS scriptures, books and quotes from general authorities since the Church’s beginnings specifically admonish the Saints to be prudent, respect animals and take good care of the land and air, Price said.

Former Church President Brigham Young said, “The very object of our existence is to handle the temporal elements of this world and subdue the earth, multiplying those plants and animals God has designed. When we have learned to live according to the full value of the life we now possess, we are prepared for further advancement in the scale of eternal progression — for a more exalted sphere.”

But only when environmentalism is separated from left-wing Democratic positions do Mormons accept the political stance, Price explained.

It’s a matter of political priorities,” he said. Saints can be environmentalists without voting for gay marriage, abortion or any other liberal ideals — though many don’t realize it, he added.

Try to help people understand how to take care of the environment by example, Relief Society activities and youth groups,” Froerer said. “Those can be great opportunities to offer your services in teaching environmental concern.”

The one LDS belief all three presenters agreed to be in direct conflict with environmentalism was that of “multiplying and replenishing the earth” — known by environmentalists as overpopulation.

The Family Proclamation commanding Saints to multiply and replenish the earth is in full force,” Price said. “So maybe don’t try to argue that one with your Mormon neighbors and friends.”

But of all the buildings on USU’s campus, he said the LDS Institute building has more recycling bins than any other building, so the Church may be more active in some parts of the environmentalist movement than others.

Religion really can be a base for environmentalism,” Froerer said. And while the presenters agreed the “Mormon Environmental Ethic” might have a long way to go, they said with more knowledge and more action, the LDS community is on its way to making the world a healthier, happier place to live.

In collaboration with Bear River Health Department, Price and Walker are spreading environmental concern with thousands of Cache Valley Latter-day Saints. On Sunday, Oct. 29, more than 300 LDS congregations will be showing a DVD about air quality across the valley. Framed as a public health issue, local LDS residents will learn about the steps they can take to cleaner air during their fifth Sunday combined Relief Society and Priesthood classes."

I think the LDS church already teaches that people should be stewards of the earth. I agree with you, this is a way for political groups to gain easy access to church members. It is all too convenient to get their point of view out this way. Who will ask to do a presentation next, Planned Parenthood?
